I love to paint when I travel, or I think I love to travel in order to paint!. I find by sitting in a place for a while painting, I tune into the song of the place. When travelling with other people it is not always possible to take time and paint in situ. When I don’t have time to sit out outside, I take plenty of photos which I can use when I return in the evening and there is plenty to digest over the next few weeks on returning back from my travels.
One of my favourite watercolour papers is khadi paper. I have a large sable rigger which I can paint most things with despite all the abuse I give it. I have an old battered antique watercolour paint box. My students tease me and call it ‘my dirty wee palette’. Although I washed it before I took a photograph of all my painting gear.
